Getting back on his feet and starting life anew: assistance from the Veterans Support Center for defender Mykhailo from Khmelnytskyi

Getting back on his feet and starting life anew: assistance from the Veterans Support Center for defender Mykhailo from Khmelnytskyi Getting back on his feet and starting life anew: assistance from the Veterans Support Center for defender Mykhailo from Khmelnytskyi

It is important to know that you are not alone in this world. That your dedication to your homeland is valuable, that it is recognized, and that there are people who will support and listen to you.

Recently, our veterans from the "Support Center for Combat Participants and Families of the Fallen" at the "Ukrainian Helicopters" company, along with their ordered gifts, visited military defender Mykhailo Kryl from Khmelnytskyi.

The defender has been using a wheelchair for almost two years after being injured near Bakhmut.

"We were on a combat mission at that time. Two groups went out to seize positions. Before taking our position, we had to help our brothers storm another location. We succeeded, but the enemy, knowing that we had captured their position, started mercilessly shelling it. That's when I received both shrapnel and gunshot wounds. They pulled me out and took me to the stabilization point. They saved my life, but since then, I’ve been in a wheelchair," the defender shares.

Mykhailo learned about our Center from volunteers. He is undergoing intensive rehabilitation and is working hard to get back on his feet. Step by step, he is physically developing his body, and with new skills comes the need for new gadgets. For example, the sanitary wheelchair he received is essential for him to be able to independently use the shower. Our veterans also presented him with an anti-decubitus cushion because he spends a lot of time sitting, either in a wheelchair or elsewhere, and this indispensable item was necessary for him. Additionally, some everyday hygiene products will be useful.

"I am very grateful for the help and the conversation with your Center. I really long for simple, sincere emotions. I can’t even ride around the village because the roads are so anti-inclusive that you can't even get to the store. Communication is necessary," Mykhailo shares.

He is coping well with his injury, engaging in physical exercises intensively, and believes he will definitely stand on his feet again. Even the doctor told him that the injury isn’t critical, and there are definitely chances. But it requires desire, inner strength, and intense motivation. Our hero has incredible motivation.

We wish Mykhailo strength in this difficult journey, and may his dream of starting a new life on his own feet become a reality. Everything is and will be Ukraine!
